Mercury is Retrograde November 6-26 2012

Themes: The overall general theme of Mercury retrograde is about reflection. It offers us a time to be more reflective about our lives, to contemplate and to create order by eliminating things that block our clarity. Therefore it is generally a good time to write, edit meditate, retreat and organize. Based on the sign it is in at the time it makes this journey, we find more specific direction about what is required at this time.

This period of Mercury Retrograde will be in the sign of Sagittarius and it will retrograde back into Scorpio where it will then go direct. Last year the retrogrades were in fire signs now they are morphing to water. Water is about feeling. But this particular Mercury retrograde period is the change-over so it starts in Sagittarius (fire) which is associated with vision and revisits Scorpio (water) which is about feeling. Here we are asked to look at our fundamental assumptions about ourselves, our lives, our connections to other people and find the root of these assumptions. You could think of a water lily, rooted in muck but beautiful enough to take your breath away and inspire great art. This Mercury retrograde encourages us to dive deep and surface with renewed vision about our lives.

Here are the major aspects Mercury makes:
Square to Neptune on November 13th (It did this for the first time when it was direct on October 29th and will do it again after the retrograde on December 11th).

This is the essential definition of confusion. It is like trying to understand something that cannot be dissected or catalogued. Don’t even try. If you remember what was happening on the 29th of October it might offer a clue as to what the core confusion of this particular Mercury retrograde is for you.

Retrogrades back to Scorpio November 14th
Here is where we are asked to switch from fire (vision; assumptions) to water (feelings).

Conjuncts the Sun on November 17th.
This is always the most important aspect of the retrograde because the whole phenomenon happens due to the relationship of Mercury to the Sun. In general the Sun burns up Mercury when it’s retrograde and this indicates we have to be careful to think clearly in the midst of confusion but on the day they are conjunct we are meant to find clarity at the heart of our confusion or/and disorientation. In this case our clarity is found when we can allow our feelings to be known by us no matter what they are. It’s not about acting on feelings, it’s about feeling them with a gut level knowing. To do this you might have to be still and listen.

What situation in your life do you anticipate will be a problem during the upcoming or current Mercury Retrograde period?   What situation feels insecure?
