Mercury square Neptune (again!)

Some say that dreams are messages from God itself to help us adjust our lives. The ego hates them, tries to ignore them, and trivializes them for all it’s worth because it desperately wants to hold onto its identity. Others believe that dreams are simply the off-gassing of our day; created by what we ate, who we encountered and what we are releasing. What do you think?

So ends the mercury retrograde shadow for now.

Mercury (shadow) enters Sagittarius

Mercury entered Sagittarius  on October 30th, and went retrograde on November 6th. Now that it is direct it is retracing it’s steps and on December 10th it re-enters Sagittarius.

Mercury is the small talk god. It represents all the things we are curious about. In Sagittarius the curious mind is challenged with the possibility of wisdom. It’s two ends of one dilemma – Mercury (as the ruler of Gemini) and Sagittarius its opposite. Some of us prefer to see the forest; others would rather deal with each tree. Today and tomorrow will complete the Mercury retrograde cycle just past as Mercury leaves it’s shadow.

Insights for Mercury Retrograde in 2013

In 2013 all the Mercury retrogrades will be in water signs. First Pisces, then Cancer and lastly, Scorpio. Water is a mysterious and sometimes difficult element for our current world to use well.

The mystery and power of water is in the fact that it’s so internal. It’s about feelings. It’s dark, cold, interior and subjective. When we look out across the water in the ocean or a lake or pond, all we see is the surface.  We know there are things going on underneath but we can’t see them unless we make a great effort. It’s the same with feelings. We can see the surface reality of them If, for example someone creates a ‘dark cloud’ wherever they go or even If they bring joy and laughter. But we don’t see without some effort why they are that way. (Often people with a lot of water in their charts can ‘see’ this but we generally train this aspect of perception out of children by denying that they are seeing anything at all.)

The negative realities of water stem from the process we call projection.  Feelings are often negative. I feel frightened or resentful.  I don’t want to feel that way so I project it on to you. I do something to make you feel that way and then I somehow think I am not feeling it. This is the painful mystery of water; how we see the bad in others and it makes us feel somehow more secure in ourselves. Quite the illusion! It is often the root of hatred and violence in our world. And a major factor in war which naturally makes the ‘other’ the problem.

Given the complexity and power of water I think It Is an exceptional year to use the tool of resonance repatterning to align ourselves, and possibly our world, with the more humane aspects of water.

Who is This Mercury Who Changes Direction so Frequently?

Mercury went direct on November 26th. The shadow of the retrograde period will last into December. The shadow is generally a time when the issues that were active in the retrograde period start to iron themselves out. It’s good to know we can kind of count on that.

We seem to get so caught up In Mercury when It’s retrograde we spend very little time thinking about it when it is direct, which is most of the year. Those of us who are followers of the trickster might benefit from keeping track of Mercury between retrogrades. You will notice Carolyn and I making more posts in an attempt to offer insights and invite you to comment here or journal on this topic yourself. Astrological journaling is a fascinating thing to do.

Mercury is the planet that stays closest to the Sun. It is generally hard to spot if you don’t have a clear, flat horizon. It will always be seen if at all, close to the horizon. Mercury is always busy thinking and using hands. We find it in the details of our lives. We are all aware how the smallest things can derail a good mood or a great idea. Mercury encourages us to be flexible and agile in the way we handle these things.
