Mercury is Retrograde August 20th 2010 by Julie Simmons

Mercury Retrograde from August 20th – September 12th

Themes:  The overall general theme of Mercury retrograde is about reflection.  It offers us a time to be more reflective about life on planet earth, to contemplate and to create order by eliminating things that block our clarity.  Therefore it is generally a good time to write, edit meditate, retreat and organize.  Based on the sign it is in at the time it makes this journey, we find more specific direction about what is required at this time.

This period of Mercury Retrograde will be in the sign of Virgo the whole time. Mercury is said to be both at home and exalted in this sign. Basically what that means is that our ability to think is enhanced by Virgo perceptions. Virgo encourages us to puzzle; to fit the pieces together and make things work. During a retrograde period this suggests that any project we are involved in will benefit if we go over what we have learned. We can also gain insight when we allow ourselves to play with different possibilities from the ones we were sure about before August 20th. Even if these retrograde patterns don’t pan out ultimately they will offer new ways of seeing our projects.  A little clowning around could go a long way toward shaking up the pattern enough to break through to a better one.

Below you will find the days when Mercury interacts with other planets. These are times when the story that Mercury is telling is highlighted.

September 3: Sun conjunct Mercury: This is the big news of every Mercury retrograde period. The whole dance happens at all because of the relationship between Mercury and the Sun. In general the Sun burns up Mercury when it’s retrograde and this indicates we have to be careful to think clearly in the midst of confusion but on the day they are conjunct we are meant to find mercy at the heart of our confusion or/and disorientation. In this case it is a time to suspend criticism and anxiety and simply listen to the body. Let the mind still and feel into your intestines to be specific. (Virgo rules the small intestine and the corresponding ability to sort through things – separating the useful from the useless). The power of Mercury in Virgo is found in our ability to create the larger by keeping the smaller parts healthy and connected to the whole.

July 30th: Mercury trine Pluto: This is exact during the shadow period, before the actual retrograde but it’s significant because when Mercury actually goes direct in September it will do so at the same degree of Pluto’s station in April. Essentially what this shows us is that there is a connection between the two planets; and a good one! When Mercury meets Pluto the offering is profound thought. It is a good time for detectives and researchers. Digging around in the muck will bring results; an archeologists delight! Don’t be afraid to plumb the depths. This is also very strong from September 9th – 17th.

Whew! We are now out of Mercury Retrograde’s shadow

Sometime today I felt a shift in energy for no apparent reason and began to feel lighter and at the same time more focused.  I thought perhaps this lightness of being could be attributed to the dregs of a flu virus, touch wood having lifted because now I feel like catching up on a million things.

Then it occurred to me  that we are now officially (right Julie?) out of the shadow of Mercury retrograde and that together with Julie’s mention that the moon is now in Capricorn (see her tweets at http://Twitter.com/juliesimmonsast  I of course more than most would be mentally focused.  I am a Capricorn.

It felt like a long Mercury retrograde than most.  The flu dragged on for me, not severe enough to be out of commission and bed ridden, but not my perky best.   The news caught my interest in terms of Mercury retrograde – The Icelandic volcano eruption (read Julie’s blog post ) certainly caused lots of travel problems, new Ipad owners were ecstatic over their purchases (Taurus’s value for things)  but I saw lots of Twitter grumbling about setting up the applications.    Then there was that nasty oil spill with no end in sight.  I hope mass consciousness at least learns the value of our interconnection, the fragility of the planet and puts a stop to our thirst for oil at any cost.  Plenty of communication problems in that mess but as the week came to a close and Mercury’s shadow faded solutions seemed cautiously optimistic.

This Mercury retrograde totally forced me to slow down BUT I did manage to finish the quilt I started just before Mercury went retrograde in September 2009! YEAH!   Now that things have lifted,  I am looking forward to a few new starts.

How about you?  What was your take on Mercury Retrograde April 17-May12 2010?

All the best,

Carolyn

Mercury is Direct at 6:37PM Est. Whew!

Mercury is direct as of Tuesday May 11th. In the weeks ahead you will feel the direct return as more flow, and easier communication.  We’ll be completely out of this shadow on May 29th

Julie says “… any and all the things that were simmering when mercury was retro can now unfurl and blossom. especially until October 31. It will be interesting to have this awareness in what happens in the world as well as for us as individuals.”

How did you manage this Mercury retrograde? Were your challenges handled with grace and ease? Did you put your closets in order, or resolve a computer issue? Did the trickster planet set up you for things turning out better than expected?

Your stories and comments are welcomed!

We’d love to hear your story. How have you managed this past Mercury in retrograde; what synchronicities happened for you? .

Breathe. Mercury is direct!

Blessings!

Vespa Mercury Retrograde Story

What is  your Mercury Retrograde Story?  We’re half way through this astrological influence and whether you are aligned for it or not we would love to hear from you.   Here is a classic outcome of the kind of acceptance and reflection needed for things going well during Mercury retrograde from Mana Bergen (you can hear her voice in the interview she did with Julie and I…see a few posts down) .

“My Mercury retrograde story … my very old Vespa has been acting up.  Starts up okay, but once the engine is warm, it sometimes won’t start again until the engine has cooled down completely.  I’ve considered replacing but didn’t want to take on any new debt.  Meanwhile my mechanic wasn’t returning my calls. Decided to wait .. to see if some helping hand would emerge to help me get through another season.

Just opened an email from a scooter buddy who’d talked to my mechanic .. letting me know I hadn’t been forgotten ..So I’m keeping cool …not getting rid of my scooter .. and really thinking about what it’s worth ..it’s vintage, an unusualmodel ..so really considering the whole question of value.  No big resolution yet ..more a sense of not getting rushed into a trade. ” – Mana Bergen
